Décors Barbares

Founded by Nathalie Farman-Farma in 2015, Décors Barbares is a textile and design studio based in New York City. Committed to quality, craftsmanship and archival exploration, its colorful aesthetics embrace the layering of patterns and the blending of Eastern and Western references.

All designs are printed in a historical French mill using traditional vat dying techniques. The result is an extraordinary array of fabrics that are imbued with warmth, charm, and something slightly mysterious and otherworldly.

Nathalie Farman-Farma

Nathalie Farman-Farma, founder and creative director of Décors Barbares, draws on her historical fluency and love of fabrics to create her collections. Having studied Classics at University, Farman-Farma expanded her frame of reference in her twenties, incorporating Persian and Eastern European influences into her aesthetic framework. Her London Studio, Connecticut home, and office in Soho, New York, are all immersive glimpses into a lifelong passion for textiles.

Her creative vision is built upon the disparate roads she has traveled. From California to Paris, Ukraine to Uzbekistan — like an erudite alchemist, she pulls together ancient and contemporary myths, uniting them in a cohesive world of romantic florals, block prints, silk road patterns.

“The entire line of fabrics is just amazing — a lot of the patterns are inspired by Persian, Central Asian, and Russian folklore. We’ve used it in modern interiors and in very old-world interiors, and there’s almost something a little punk about it.”
